IHN: A community response

Host congregations, including All Saints Episcopal, Bethlehem Baptist, Crowders Creek ARP, First ARP, First United Methodist, Friendship Baptist, Holy Trinity Lutheran, Redeemer Lutheran, Southminster Presbyterian, St. Mark’s Episcopal, St Stephens Episcopal, and West Avenue Presbyterian, donate their building space to provide overnight accommodations for homeless families for one week every three months, on a rotating basis.  More than 800 volunteers from participating congregations are involved in the program in their own churches.  Volunteers prepare dinner, read stories to young children, assist parents with resumes, play games, talk, and listen.  Some volunteers stay overnight at the host congregation and prepare breakfast.  Each morning the families are transported by van to the day center, which is located in West Avenue Presbyterian Church.
